A popular Vancouver restaurant wants to get more kids and their families eating fresh and local foods, so they’ve launched a new “Kids Eat Free” program.
Edible Canada at Granville Island kicked off the new offer at their Bistro on May 1, 2019.
The way it works is that kids 12 and under may order a dish from the kids’ menu and it will be free when an accompanying adult meal is purchased (minimum $19).
The offer is available Monday through Thursday all year long, and is for dine-in only.
On the kids’ menu at Edible Canada are things like a West coast shrimp and crab slider served with fries or veggie sticks, fish and chips made with arctic char, a Pemberton beef cheeseburger slider, seafood chowder with cheese toast, a chicken melt, mini poutine, or maple-glazed root vegetables.
Adults can feast on things like crispy Pacific Humboldt Squid, Quebec duck tartare, a sous vide Fraser Valley chicken breast with fresh veggies, West Coast wild salmon, or their signature duck poutine. All of Edible’s seafood is Ocean Wise, and many of their dishes feature Canadian ingredients available in the restaurant’s retail shop, too.
Edible Canada’s president and founder Eric Pateman is not only dedicated to promoting Canadian cuisine and the power of supporting local producers, but he’s also a dad.
“The purposes of the Kids Eat Free initiative is to make a positive impact while giving back to a community that has been so good to us for over a decade,” says Pateman in an e-mailed release. “The best way to facilitate change is through our youth, and helping them understand the importance of eating local and supporting local farmers and artisans. That will lead to a generation of adults who buy local first.”
Edible Canada is located at 1596 Johnston Street in Vancouver (Granville Island). Kids Eat Free is offered Monday through Thursday, and on those days the restaurant is open from 11 a.m. to 8:30 p.m.
