KitchenCraft is holding a Food Bank Challenge at its Burnaby location at 2148 Douglas Rd.

The company notified the Burnaby NOW via email about the food drive, which began on Nov. 5 and continues until Dec. 15.

The company is matching in weight any donations that come in from the public, according to an email from Hailie Walker, an employee with KitchenCraft.

Each food item donated earns the customer a two per cent discount on cabinetry, up to 10 per cent, the email stated, but customers are welcome to donate as much as they want.

KitchenCraft is looking specifically for canned meats and fish, canned and boxed meals, natural peanut butter and other nut butters, canned or dried peas and beans, whole wheat pasta, rice, low-sugar cereal, canned fruits and vegetables, cooking oil and shelf-stable milk.

The company is hoping to collect and donate primarily healthy, low-fat and low-sugar food to the Greater Vancouver Food Bank, according to the email.

HOLIDAY LUNCHEON

The Burnaby Board of Trade is holding its annual Christmas luncheon on Dec. 7.

The event, which takes place between 11: 30 a.m. and 2 p.m., includes a holiday buffet at the Simon Fraser University Diamond Alumni Centre and the board's second annual gingerbread house contest, according to the board's website.

Attendees are asked to bring a new, unwrapped toy for the Burnaby Christmas Bureau.

The cost for members is $55 or $400 for a table of eight. For non-members, it's $80 or $600 for a table of eight.

To register, call 604-4120100, email [email protected], or go to the events section of the board's website at www.bbot.ca to register online.

MEDAL AWARDED

Wendell Harlow, manager of Electronic Arts outreach and corporate giving in Burnaby, has been awarded a Diamond Jubilee Medal because of her volunteer service with Make-A-Wish B.C., according to a press release from Make-A-Wish.

Harlow, a Vancouver resident, has volunteered with the organization since 1997, and has granted wishes along with her work at Electronic Arts, according to the release.

Some of the wishes she has worked to grant include creating snow for Christmas in July and giving behind-the-scenes tours of Electronic Arts, the release stated.

She also co-created the EA Challenge, a staff initiative to help Make-A-Wish with its work.
