Larry Hayes is a Burnaby Citizens Association candidate and current chair of the school board. He is seeking re-election as a school trustee:
A 55-year resident of Burnaby, Larry Hayes attended elementary, secondary and post-secondary schools in the community. He holds a Community Service Worker Certificate and a diploma in corrections from Douglas College and attended SFU where he graduated with a bachelor's degree in criminology and psychology. Larry is serving his third term as a Burnaby school trustee and was elected board chair in 2010.
Now 56, Larry says, "After more than 35 years volunteering and working in our community, I still feel honored to be able to continue making a positive difference through my work with the Burnaby board of education. I'm running for office again because I want to continue serving the community that I love, helping to build its future through our young people."
Larry has worked for over 20 years in the provincial and federal corrections system and remains a member of the Canadian and B.C. Justice Associations. He also served on the Burnaby Parks, Recreation and Culture Commission and continues to be involved with amateur youth sports as executive director of the Burnaby Minor Hockey Association, where he is also a life member.
He was inducted into the Burnaby Sports Hall of Fame in the builder category in 2006.
