Fraser Health is dealing with two COVID-19 outbreaks in Burnaby, according to its latest updated, but one of those sites is seeing a concerning number of cases.
Burnaby’s Fellburn Care Centre in Burnaby has seen more than 50 cases in its outbreak, including more than a dozen staff members testing positive for COVID-19. CTV is reporting there have also been at least four deaths at Fellburn.
Fellburn Care Centre has 81 publicly subsidized long-term care beds through Fraser Health. There are 10 single occupancy, 16 double occupancy and 10 multiple occupancy rooms.
Fraser Health said in a news release that a staff member at Normanna care home in Burnaby has also tested positive for COVID-19.
“Fraser Health has declared an outbreak at this location, and a rapid response team is at the site,” said a news release. “Communication with residents and families is underway. The staff member is currently in self-isolation at their home in long term care.”
Normanna is a long-term care facility in Burnaby owned and operated by Norwegian Old People’s Home Association. Normanna had a previous outbreak in September.
“Enhanced control measures have been put in place at the site,” said Fraser Health. “Fraser Health is working with staff to identify anyone who may have been exposed and is taking steps to protect the health of all staff, residents and families.”
An outbreak at Fair Haven Homes Burnaby Lodge in Burnaby has been declared over.
The number of British Columbians suffering in hospital with COVID-19 infections has risen 54% in the past week to 142 individuals, according to government data released November 10. That's the highest number since April 4, when there were a record 149 COVID-19 patients in B.C. hospitals.
Of those, 46 people are in intensive care units, the highest since April 22.
