The Law Enforcement Torch Run will be in Burnaby on Thursday morning.

The run, which involves law enforcement personnel in nearly 30 communities across the province hitting the streets in support of Special Olympics B.C., will be at Kensington Plaza in North Burnaby at 9 a.m. on Thursday.

From there, officers will run along Hastings Street to the Special Olympics provincial office at 3701 Hastings St.

Since 1990, the B.C. Law Enforcement Torch Run has been instrumental in raising awareness and funds for Special Olympics athletes and programs.

From Burns Lake to White Rock, from Nanaimo to Cranbrook, law enforcement personnel will complete a run of three to five kilometres and then join Special Olympics athletes and community members for fun and festivities.

The runners come from a variety of agencies including the RCMP, municipal police departments, the Transit Police Service and the Canada Border Services Agency.

"Hundreds of members of RCMP detachments all around the province will be running the streets in support of Special Olympics in this year's Law Enforcement Torch Run. This province-wide support is a symbol of our dedication to Special Olympics B.C. and the athletes who inspire us," Norm Lipinski, assistant commissioner, RCMP E Division, said in a press release.
