Josefa Dolesau of the Burnaby Lake Rugby Club is a co-winner of the inaugural Canadian Rugby Championship player of the year award.

Dolesau shares the award with Dean Blanks from the Atlantic Rock.

"Jo was a threat in every match for us during the 2011 season, and the award is well-deserved," B.C. head coach Kris De Scossa said in a press release. "He led by example with his performances, and although he wasn't the most vocal member of our squad, his quiet approach to training and dedication to playing high level rugby speaks for itself."

"Dolesau is a strong and elusive ball run runner," Prairie Wolf Pack head coach Col Jeffs said. "He reads the game well and can find a hole in the defence to run at and challenge his opposition. (He was) a strong defender too."

Dolesau's strongest performance of the season came against the Wolf Pack in Kelowna on Aug. 13 when the speedy centre scored two tries to lift B.C. to a 31-29 victory.

Dolesau's success was also mirrored in a convincing weekend of September wins for Burnaby Lake.

On Saturday, Sept. 24, Burnaby Lake hosted five teams and won all five games.

The u-19 men started the day with a 61-0 victory over Chilliwack.

The third division men were next up with a 40-15 win over the Scribes.

The Tier 1 Women won 27-15 over Capilanos, followed by the first division men beating UBC Old Boys 48-21 and the Elites completing the sweep with a 363 win over the Elite Ravens.

In the elite match, Dolesau showed his awardwinning form, helping on the first score of Jeke Gotegote by breaking and passing outside to his open teammate.

Dolesau added his own try in the 23rd minute to extend the Burnaby lead.
