Burnaby rioters who take advantage of a local spa's offer could have a lovely manicure to go with those matching silver bracelets when they're arrested.
Eccotique Spas and Salons, which has a spa and salon at Metropolis at Metrotown, is offering criminals who turn themselves in to police a $50 "Calm Down and De-Stress" gift certificate.
"These people obviously had a lot of pent-up anger during all the chaos. We think they need to calm down and relax," president Milajne Soligo said in a press release.
But they need to drop by the spa and confess to their role in the riot first, according to the release.
"To qualify, each suspect must show photo ID and describe how they were involved in an illegal activity, such as looting, arson or an aggressive act," the release stated. "They will then apply their fingerprints to the certificate before turning themselves in to the (Vancouver Police Department). Once in possession of an official police arrest form, their gift certificate will be activated."
The marketing campaign is in response to frustrations over the lack of charges laid following the riot in Vancouver last June.
The riot occurred after the Vancouver Canucks lost Game 7 of the Stanley Cup finals to the Boston Bruins. Rioters damaged property, looted, and set vehicles on fire in Vancouver's downtown.
The gift certificate campaign is a one-time, limited time offer, according to the company, and the goal is to see as many charges laid as possible.
No charges have been laid as of yet, though the Vancouver Police Department announced last month that it plans to lay at least 40 charges by Nov. 1.
"We're happy to donate the $50 gift certificates if it identifies the suspects," Soligo said.
Rioters can confess their crimes at any Eccotique location, including the ones in Burnaby.
