Ready for Halloween?

Halloween is fast approaching and if you haven't made plans yet, we're here to help with a list of events in Burnaby.

Trick-or-treating is a given, of course.

BURNABY'S EERIE ILLUSIONS

You might have already heard of this event at the Burnaby Village Museum.

The village is being transformed into a “magical world bathed in breathtaking colour, with talking crows, invisible bands and photo-bombing ghouls” as part of its Halloween event Eerie Illusions.

The city says this Halloween experience is suitable for all ages and tickets can be bought in advance online. Tickets are $10 for adults, $5 for kids from two to 12, but no charge for kids under two years.

The event runs rain or shine on the following dates:

Oct. 22-23, 5-11 p.m.
Oct. 24-28, 6-10 p.m.
Oct. 29-31, 5-11 p.m.

Multiple options in that date range are already sold out, with extremely limited ticket availability at other times – so if you're planning to attend, best to get your tickets soon. Last entry is one hour prior to closing. The experience is designed to take approximately 45 to 65 minutes to experience, the city says.

Take-out food is available for purchase from an on-site café. In addition, there will be food trucks on site selling snacks such as mini-donuts and popcorn.

GHOULS AND GOBLINS TOONIE SKATE

It is never too early for ice skating.

Skating, creepy crafts and fun are all part of this event at Bill Copeland Sports Centre.

The event runs from 12:30 to 3 p.m. on Oct. 30 with an admission price of $2, including skate rentals. Children three and under are free.

SCAREDY CAT CABARET

On Oct. 28 from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m., Burnaby's arts centre is hosting eight Vancouver-based live performers, who will be coming together to share their stories of what freaks them out.

Each artist will delve into common fears and common needs to connect.

It'll be funny and terrifying at the same time, bonding over mutual vulnerabilities.

Shadbolt Centre is at 6450 Deer Lake Ave. The show is running both live and livestreamed, and tickets are available now for $30 for the in-person show or $15 for the livestream.

The Shadbolt Centre operates with COVID-19 safety protocols in place, and proof of vaccination is required to attend live shows.

You can buy tickets online or call the box office at 605-205-3000.

PUMPKIN PARADE

Don't throw your carved pumpkin out right away.

On Nov. 1 from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m., you can take it to Confederation Park (Albert and Willingdon) and show off your masterpiece.

Pumpkins will be lined up on the walking path in front of Eileen Dailly.

Lights for pumpkins will be provided.

All pumpkins will be composted by the city waste management team after the event.
