Making a healthier city

The City of Burnaby is looking into what it would take to be part of Fraser Health's Healthier Communities Partnership initiative.

The City of Burnaby is looking into what it would take to be part of Fraser Health's Healthier Communities Partnership initiative.

A delegation from the health authority spoke at the June 13 council meeting, asking that the city become involved, and also asked that the city co-host a regional Healthy Living Tradeshow.

The partnership would require a city steering committee, with Burnaby civic politicians and Fraser Health representatives, as well as an assessment of the city, and a commitment to joint projects to "enhance the health, well-being and quality of life for Burnaby residents," according to a report from the city's director of planning and building, Basil Luksun.

Luksun recommended that the city's potential involvement be explored by implementing the first phase, and developing the work plan for, the Burnaby Social Sustainability Strategy.
