The Inclusion Through Innovation Awards recognize organizations that have used innovative ways to make Burnaby more inclusive of people with disabilities.

The deadline for award nominations is Oct. 14, and the ceremony will be Nov.

3 at the Pan Pacific Hotel in Vancouver, during BACI's annual fundraising gala. BACI is also hosting a special nominations period reception on Sept. 22 at 5 p.m. at 2702 Norland Ave. in Burnaby. For more information, go to www. gobaci.com or call Carol Broomhall at 778-888-1152.

AUTUMN GOODIES

The annual South Burnaby Garden Club fall fair is on next weekend at Bonsor Recreation Complex. It's a chance to see what you can grow in your garden or on your balcony. As always, there will be baking, canning, produce, flowers, fruit, refreshments and more. The fair runs Sept. 10, from 1 to 5 p.m., and Sept. 11, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission is free.

LEARN TRANSIT

MOSAIC is holding an information session for new Canadians who use public transit. The event is on Sept. 7, from 3 to 5 p.m., at the Metrotown library branch at 6100 Willingdon Ave.

A guest speaker from TransLink will talk about how to buy transit tickets, understanding fare zones and accessibility and safety features. To register, call 604-436-5400 or go online to www.bpl.bc.ca/events.

EN FRANCAIS

The Burnaby French Language Playschool is holding an open house on Saturday, Sept. 10, from 10 a.m. to noon at Ecole Marlborough.

The non-profit playschool has bilingual instructors for preschoolaged children. The playschool is in a portable at 6060 B Marlborough Ave. For more information, call 604-432-1323 or go to www.bflp.org.

BOTTLE DRIVE

The South Burnaby Neighbourhood House and the Gilpin School Daycare Committee are holding another bottle drive on Saturday Sept. 10 to raise money for a permanent daycare at Gilpin Elementary. People can help by dropping off bottles on Saturday, Sept. 10, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., at Gilpin Elementary (at 5490 Eglinton St.) or cash in empties and donate the money. Make cheques payable to South Burnaby Neighbourhood House and mail to Gilpin Daycare Project, care of the SBNH, 4845 Imperial St., Burnaby B.C., V5J 1C5.

Donations of $15 or more get a tax receipt. The volunteers can also pick up bottles. Call 6047626998 or 778-386-7758 to arrange. For more information on the daycare project, go to www.sbnh.ca.
