A man is in hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries after he was stabbed on the street outside a condo complex in the 4800-block of Brentwood Drive on Monday evening.

According to Cpl. Rick Skolrood of the Burnaby RCMP, the incident occurred between 7 and 7: 30 p.m.

"The motive is not known and we are still looking for the implement used," said Skolrood. "We do not believe this was random and we do not believe there is a danger to the public."

Skolrood said the victim does not appear to have gang ties, but had previous contact with the police, although police do not believe this was a factor in the stabbing.

"There was a lot of blood outside the building," said Skolrood.

Clint Moffatt, a resident on the eighth floor of the building, told The Vancouver Sun that he saw a great deal of blood spatter.

"The front building was cordoned off," he said. "There was a large amount of [fresh] blood in front by the fountain, in the lobby, and [dried blood] in the elevator."
