Man wanted in international drug-trafficking probe could be hiding in Burnaby

Denis Ivziku, 24, has connections to the Lower Mainland, including Burnaby, and police say he might be hiding here to avoid arrest on federal drug-trafficking charges.

A man wanted in connection with an international drug-trafficking investigation might be hiding in Burnaby, according to police.

Denis Ivziku, 24, is wanted on charges of drug trafficking, conspiracy to traffic and possession of property obtained by crime between 2018 and 2022, according to a Burnaby RCMP news release.

In an investigation dubbed Project Divergent starting in 2018, federal Mounties targeted drug trafficking and importation networks involving individuals in Canada and across the world, the release said.

Twenty of the 22 individuals charged in relation to Project Divergent were arrested on Feb. 23, 2022,” Burnaby RCMP Cpl. Alexa Hodgins said in the release. “Since then, another individual has been arrested – leaving Denis Ivziku as the only outstanding individual evading police in relation to this investigation.”

Police say Ivziku has connections to the Lower Mainland, including Burnaby, and it’s possible he might be living in the area while actively evading arrest.

While Project Divergent uncovered ties to the Hells Angels, Ivziku does not have known ties to the Lower Mainland gang conflict, according to the release.

Ivziku has brown eyes and brown hair, stands between five-foot-five and five-foot-seven and weighs between 150 and 160 pounds.

Anyone with information on Ivziku or his whereabouts is asked to contact the RCMP Federal Serious and Organized Crime Unit in Manitoba at 431-338-0956.
