An 18-year-old pedestrian was taken to hospital after being hit by an SUV in Burnaby Monday morning.

Emergency crews were called to Marine Drive by Nelson Avenue at about 9 a.m. for reports of a crash involving a pedestrian.

The young woman was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, according to the Burnaby RCMP; the driver remained on scene and is cooperating with police.

The cause of the crash is under investigation, but alcohol is not believed to have been a factor, according to police.

Investigators are still working to determine whether the pedestrian was in a crosswalk when she was hit, police said.

Marine Drive was closed in both directions for more than three hours.
