Matthew Stuart is running for Burnaby city council with the Burnaby Municipal Green Party:

My name is Matthew Stuart, and I am honored to be running with the Burnaby Greens in the upcoming municipal election. I am a new farmer, a committed community activist, and have been living in Burnaby for one year.

I am a passionate advocate for community food security, and I believe Burnaby has a chance to join the forefront of the sustainable food movement. I plan to implement a food policy with a focus on protection of ALR land, developing urban agriculture, building more community garden space and ensuring access to healthy food.

Our city needs to focus on building a strong local economy. If elected, I will push to develop a living wage policy for Burnaby that ensures all city employees and contractors working with the city are paid the living wage of $18.81. This policy not only ensures a fair wage for everyone working for the city, it injects money into the local economy while creating a stronger community.

I believe in developing sustainable transportation in Burnaby. We need to see more trips in our city made by cycling or walking. I plan to further develop cycling infrastructure in Burnaby, but realize cycling and walking will only increase with emphasis on better education, strong encouragement and greater enforcement of laws that protect vulnerable road users.
