More Burnaby staffers now in the $100K club

There are more City of Burnaby staffers being paid more than $100,000 compared to 2011, with plenty hitting the $150,000 and $200,000 mark. In 2012, 144 staffers made more than $100,000, which is up from the 106 who surpassed that mark in 2011.

The city recently released its annual remuneration report listing salaries and claimed expenses.

The city is required by law to share the salary paid to each employee that exceeds $75,000, including expenses, and a total of salaries paid to all other employees who earned less than $75,000.

About 540 staffers made more than $75,000, which is up from the 496 city

employees listed in 2011.

City manager Bob Moncur kept his position as the top paid staffer in the city, making $235,028.93 last year. He also claimed $8,938.12 for expenses.

About 14 staffers earned more than $150,000, which is down by one from 2011.

There are now three staffers, including Moncur, who made more than $200,000.

The other top five paid employees in 2012 were:

?Brian Sameshima, chief information officer, made $208,788.02 and claimed $89.60 in expenses;

?Chad Turpin, deputy city manager, made $203,068.17 and claimed $1,707.65 in expenses;

?Lambert Chu, deputy city manager, made $195,089.94 and claimed $8,699.64 in expenses;

?Denise Jorgenson, director of finance, made $187,902.36 and claimed $3,489.37 in expenses;

?Dave Ellenwood, director of parks, recreation and cultural services, made $174,251.98 and claimed $8,182.52 in expenses;

Other city staffers who made more than $150,000 made more than $150,000 included:

?Barry Davis, acting director of engineering, made $164,371.55 and claimed $6,076.03 in expenses;

?Shaun Redmond, fire chief, made $161,163.25 and claimed no expenses;

?Lou Pelletier, director of planning and building, made $161,142.14 and claimed no expenses;

?Kim Munro, director of human resources, made $160,290.55 and claimed no expenses.

The combined amount of all staffers who made more than $75,000 last year was $80.71 million, and this group claimed $191,764 in expenses.

All staff salaries under $75,000 totalled $51.21 million, with this group claiming $345,798 in expenses.

There were two severance agreements in this report. The severances paid out were the equivalent to four or four-and-a-half months of gross salary.
