Theatrix Youtheatre Society and Coquitlam Minot Hockey Association are two of 43 Tri-City non-profits receiving community gaming grants from the B.C. government on Oct. 27, 2021.

Economic recovery in every corner of the province, including the Tri-Cities, is the basis for the B.C. government's latest round of grant approvals in its arts, culture and sport sector.

A total of 43 regional non-profits are set to receive a combined $1,655,650 piece of the community gaming grant distribution pie via B.C.'s ministry of municipal affairs.

The goal is to support local residents in getting both "active and creative" as each year, commercial gaming revenue helps essential government programs and services like health care, education and social services.

The Tri-Cities is getting $379,750 for local arts and culture groups as well as $1,275,900 for sports organizations across Anmore, Coquitlam, Port Coquitlam and Port Moody.

"Activities that engage people of all ages to play sports, enjoy arts programs and celebrate cultural festivities are at the heart of B.C.’s thriving and resilient communities," says B.C. municipal affairs minister Josie Osborne in a release today (Oct. 27).

"Community Gaming Grants continue to provide critical funding for these community-based programs that support British Columbians and help them make strong community connections."

In total, the province is handing out $18.2 million in community gaming grants to arts and culture groups, and $24.9 million to sports associations and groups.
