A 27-year-old man is dead after a crash involving a motorcycle and a semi-truck in Burnaby this morning (April 22).
RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Mike Kalanj said officers responded to a report of a motor vehicle collision involving a motorcycle and semi at roughly 11:20 a.m. in the 8200-block North Fraser Way near Wiggins Street.
The semi was driving north-east bound on North Fraser Way and attempting to make a right turn onto Wiggins Street.
The motorcycle attempted to pass on the right at a "high rate of speed", according to Kalanj.
The 27-year-old motorcyclist died as a result of the collision.
Burnaby RCMP's Criminal Collision Investigation Team has taken over the case.
The driver of the semi-truck remained on the scene and is cooperating with the investigation.
Traffic on North Fraser Way has been closed since the incident and is expected to remain closed "for quite some time."
Police are asking anyone who witnessed the collision or has dashcam footage anywhere on North Fraser Way or Bryne Road and the surrounding area between 10:30 and 11:30 a.m. to contact Burnaby RCMP at 604-646-9999 and quote file number 2023-13190.
