Motorcyclist flees scene, leaves bike after Burnaby hit-and-run: police

Police are looking for a motorcyclist who fled the scene after allegedly rear-ending another vehicle on Hastings Street in Burnaby Wednesday.

Burnaby RCMP is looking for witnesses and dashcam video of a hit-and-run crash involving a motorcyclist who fled the scene, according to police.

Officers tried to stop a motorcycle in the 5300 block of Hastings Street for a traffic violation at about 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, but the bike "fled at a high rate of speed," according to a Burnaby RCMP news release.

"Moments later, the officer observed what he believed to be a motor vehicle collision involving the motorcycle in the distance and proceeded to the scene," stated the release. "Once on scene, the officer observed the abandoned motorcycle on its side as the operator had fled the area on foot after rear-ending another vehicle driving eastbound on Hastings Street."

The driver of the other vehicle was uninjured.

Anyone who witnessed the incident or has dashcam video of Hastings Street from Fell Avenue to Springer Avenue between 4 p.m. and 4:45 p.m.is asked to contact Burnaby RCMP at 604-646-9999.
