Burnaby RCMP are asking for the public’s help in identifying a suspect of a February bank robbery.
According to police, the suspect allegedly stole an undisclosed amount of money from a TD Canada Trust branch in the 3700 block of Canada Way. RCMP officers were called to the scene at about 6 p.m. on Feb. 6 after receiving calls reporting an armed robbery.
“Upon attendance the officers were informed that a lone male suspect had entered the bank and made off with an undisclosed amount of money. No weapon was produced, however the threat of violence was used,” a press release from the Burnaby RCMP stated.
Patrol units were sent out to search for the suspect, who left the bank on foot with the stolen cash, but they weren’t able to locate him, the release added.
According to Burnaby Staff Sgt. Maj. John Buis, the detachment’s robbery unit has done everything they can to try to identify the suspect, but, so far his identity remains unknown.
“There’s all sorts of things that we can’t really talk about but we’re able to do through facial recognition systems,” he said.
Despite these attempts, police have come up empty in their search and are now releasing photos of the suspect, hoping someone can help identify him, Buis added.
The suspect is described as an Asian man in his late 20s or early 30s with dark facial stubble and a faux mohawk haircut. During the robbery, he was seen wearing a white Nike baseball hat, a dark grey Nike zip hoody and casual pants.
Anyone with information about this suspect or the incident is asked to call the Burnaby RCMP Strike Force at 604-294-7631 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS.
