Burnaby’s Christophe Bonzon is a chocolate master.
The owner of Chez Christophe Chocolaterie Patisserie recently won four awards at the 2015 World Chocolate Masters Canadian final, according to a press release from Chez Christophe.
The competition took place in Montreal, Que. in April.
Bonzon won for Best Moulded Praline, Best Chocolate to Go, Best Cake of the Day and the media prize Coup de Coeur.
He came in second in the Canadian finals.
The masters is a global competition organized by gourmet chocolate company Cacao Barry.
Bonzon, who was previously a pastry chef at Cin Cin Restaurant in Vancouver, opened the shop in Burnaby Heights in 2013 with his wife, Jess Bonzon.
Tasty meatball
Another Heights business recently won a culinary challenge, as well.
Cioffi’s Cucina won first place in the Vancouver Foodster Meatball Challenge last month, according to a press release from the local food blog, Vancouver Foodster.
The Angelo was created by chefs Jason Symington and Josh McWilliams.
The dish included homemade meatballs in Mama Cioffi’s tomato sauce on a toasted ciabatta baguette with roasted garlic mayonnaise and fresh arugula, the release stated.
Cioffi’s was up against 13 other restaurants in the region.
Top marks for Burnaby financial planner
Burnaby’s Olivia Ruoyi Yu was recently recognized for getting the third highest marks in the country on her certified financial planner exam.
Because of her success with the six-hour exam, Yu made the Financial Planning Standards Council’s President’s List, according to a press release from the council.
“FPSC is pleased to recognize these exceptional individuals for their performance on this challenging examination,” Cary List, the council’s president and CEO, said in the release. “We congratulate the President’s List honourees on their achievement and wish them great success as CFP professionals.”
Green Talks
The Burnaby Board of Trade is offering its 2015 Green Talks forum next Wednesday.
The networking and sustainability forum is being presented by BCIT, Encorp Pacific/Return-It and Electronics Arts Canada, and is being held at the Electronic Arts campus.
The forum takes place on May 6 from 5:30 to 8 p.m.

Getting into business with SFU
The Burnaby Board of Trade is also holding one of its Meet the Buyers events with Simon Fraser University next Wednesday.
The session is being led by Mary Aylesworth, director of procurement services for the university, who will discuss SFU’s procurement policies and what the university buys from the local community.
The session takes place at the board’s offices from 9 to 10 a.m., and is free for members.
