Residents in the Heights will have the opportunity to get to know their neighbours and get healthier, starting tomorrow.

Residents in the Heights will have the opportunity to get to know their neighbours and get healthier, starting tomorrow.

A group, including local business people and city staff, has started a new initiative called Healthy on the Heights, according to a press release from the City of Burnaby's parks, recreation and cultural services department.

The walk will be led by Sun Run in-training leaders Beth Connelly and Liz McEwan, the release stated, and will progress in length over time.

The first walk, which takes place this Saturday, will start off at two kilometres with the weekly walks eventually progressing to 4.5 kilometres.

The walk routes will go along Hastings Street, allowing participants to get to know the merchants, according to the release.

The group will meet Saturday mornings at 9:30 a.m. at the front door of the Eileen Dailly recreation centre. Participation is free.

Local businesses such as the Burnaby Heights Physiotherapy Clinic, chiropractor Ann Izard, podiatrist Dr. David Brooks, G&F Financial Group and Capitol Hill Massage Therapy Clinic are supporting the initiative.
