Council approved the implementation of eight speed humps for Burnaby at a recent meeting.
The Burnaby Heights, Capitol Hill, Brentwood, 8000-block of 18th Avenue, 4300-block of Kitchener Street and the 200-block of Gamma Avenue North can expect speed humps this year.
"Over the course of 2012 city staff has responded to numerous inquiries from residents about the process for installing speed humps along their street," states the report from the department of engineering. "Of those, a total of eight residents have expressed a desire to initiate the (Local Area Service Program) process for installing speed humps this year."
The fire department was consulted about the speed humps, which they say will not adversely affect their emergency response time.
Security project gets approval
Council approved funding for the initial phase of the city's new credit card security standard (PCI-DSS) project, with a price tag of $65,000.
The funding will come out of the stabilization reserve and is expected to lead to the hiring of a consultant.
"PCI-DSS standard was introduced in 2006 to reduce merchant fraud for businesses and organizations that provide credit and debit card payment acceptance services to their clients," according to a report from the finance and civic development committee. "Failure to complete certification can result in fines, lawsuits and revocation of merchant privileges." sseccia@burnabynow. com
