Fraser River Discovery Centre is offering a variety of indoor and outdoor family fun during spring break.

Walking tours and hands-on activities are part of the action at Fraser River Discovery Centre during spring break.

Fraser River Discovery Centre is offering a variety of programs for families from Saturday, March 12 to Sunday, March 27.

“Just like last year, there will be lots for families to do at the FRDC during spring break,” said Stephen Bruyneel, the centre’s director of external relations and development. “From on-site programs to guided walking tours, and even a special edition of River Basin Days, there will be something for everyone. And all will continue to be compliant with our COVID-19 health and safety plan.”

Located on New Westminster’s waterfront at 788 Quayside Dr., Fraser River Discovery Centre provides a variety of exhibits and programs related to the Mighty Fraser.

At the centre, visitors can enjoy activities that explore the Fraser River in different ways, from its diverse ecosystem to its contributions to the region’s culture, history, and economy. Exploration tables (on Wednesdays and Thursdays) will help guests discover some amazing facts about the river’s wildlife, rocks and minerals and guided activities (on Fridays and Saturdays) will take an in-depth look at a key feature of the river, from its economy to its biodiversity.

“Our updated Quayside walking tours will also be available, with guests taking a stroll down the boardwalk to learn some fascinating facts about B.C.’s longest river,” said a FRDC press release. “Finally, a special edition of River Basin Days will be offered Saturday, March 12 in lower Hume Park to learn how birds prepare for spring. Through hands-on activities, they will explore the diversity of bird nests, and discover what role egg colours play in keeping baby birds safe.”

According to the press release, FRDC has a robust COVID-19 health and safety plan, and everything offered during spring break will be consistent with that plan.

“We know that health and safety continue to be the most important priorities for everyone,” Bruyneel said. “At the FRDC, that means such things as pre-registration for many activities, limits on group sizes and composition, physical distancing, regular sanitation and cleaning inside the centre, vaccination passports and the requirement to wear masks for visitors aged six and older.”
