Transit Police have arrested a 26-year-old New Westminster man in connection to Sunday morning’s SkyTrain stabbing near the Edmonds station.

In a press release, the suspect, who is known to police, was brought into custody at his New West home without incident. He is expected to be charged with assault with a weapon causing bodily harm.

The incident occurred at 1:40 a.m. Sunday on one of the last SkyTrains of the night, heading eastbound through Burnaby. A 40-year-old Surrey man, who was returning home with his girlfriend, got into an argument with two men and another woman.

One man pulled a knife and stabbed the Surrey man in the arm before the group of three fled the train. While the man and woman in the group were arrested, the other man – believed to be the one who stabbed the victim – got away. The knife was later recovered by Transit Police.

The victim was transported to hospital and received 15 stitches.

Transit Police are still interested in speaking with any witnesses or anyone who has relevant information. To report any information, call Transit Police at 604-515-8300 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
