Nine Burnaby students are amongst the 50-plus high school students who graduated last month from the 2012 RCMP Youth Academy held at Stillwood Camp in Chilliwack from April 3 to 11.

Daniel Genio, Dino Brascia, Haley Dore and Karan Sanghera from Burnaby Mountain Secondary School; Adib Jaber and Esmail Golshan from Burnaby South Secondary School; Sheldon Leung and Valentina Kafadar from Burnaby North Secondary School; and Tony Luong from Moscrop Secondary School are the Burnaby graduates from the program.

The RCMP Youth Academy attempts to provide a brief representation of the duties a uniform police officer in the RCMP might face during a typical work day. The students had the opportunity to observe and then role play in several different policing scenarios, including mock demonstrations of domestic violence, break-and-enter, traffic violations, arrests, searches and a mock court trial.

All the actors used in the scenario-based training were regular police officers and auxiliary constables who volunteered their own time to participate in the eight-day youth academy.

"I personally want to congratulate the Burnaby students for a job well done and for all the hard work put into the academy each day they spent away from their homes and families," Const. Angela Foggetti, Burnaby RCMP school liaison officer, said in a press release.
