Nine Burnaby students are among the 50 who attended an eight-day intensive youth academy program at Stillwood Camp near Cultus Lake between April 3 and 11.

The program, which has run since 1995, introduces young people to the world of police work.

Students had a chance to learn a little about what it's like to be a police officer and what it's like to go through the RCMP training academy in Regina.

Const. Jessica Andrew is this year's academy training coordinator, and she said more than 80 per cent of the participants will go on to a career in law enforcement and almost 100 per cent go on to post-secondary education.

"This is a great opportunity for these young people," said Andrew.
