More than 300 people turned out for the grand opening of the No. 9 VIP room at the Starlight Casino in Queensborough on Tuesday night.
The newest addition to the casino features more than 8,880 square feet of premiere VIP space and is touted as the largest casino VIP room in Western Canada.
Lui Garcea, executive marketing manager for the Starlight Casino, said the room features more than 20 high-limit tables of baccarat and blackjack and six private gaming salon rooms where gamblers will enjoy six-star service and a special menu of predominantly Asian-themed cuisine.
The private gaming salon rooms contain amenities such as massage chairs, high-definition televisions and the most experienced dealers.
"We listened to what our patrons wanted and this room fills that need," said Garcea.
The name of the room celebrates the Asian belief that the number nine is lucky and also pokes fun at the mistaken belief that the casino is on No. 9 Road in Richmond.
While there is a small stretch of No. 9 Road in East Richmond, the casino is east of that, at a luxurious facility at 350 Gifford St. in Queensborough.
The grand opening featured a lion dance to bless the room with good luck and special draws for prizes for the hundreds of guests in attendance.
