There is no evidence a dog was poisoned in the Windsor Park area, according to North Vancouver RCMP.

Speculation ran rampant over the weekend following a Facebook post that described a dog suffering several seizures and ultimately being hospitalized after getting poisoned near Lions Gate Christian Academy.

The poisoning theory seemed to be corroborated by a sign reading Dead Dogs Don’t Shit that had been erected at a trailhead off Plymouth Drive, prompting news and social media outlets to report the poisoning as a fact.

“People are speculating that somebody in the neighbourhood doesn’t like dogs in the park,” said North Vancouver RCMP spokesman Cpl. Richard De Jong.

While the dog did become quite sick, the veterinarian who examined the pup found no sign the Australian shepherd had been poisoned, De Jong noted. Blood work also returned no indicators of poisoning, he added.

The dog has since recovered and returned home.

Police are still doing a few neighbourhood inquiries to ensure the area is safe, De Jong said.

The BC SPCA is not involved in the case, according to community relations officer Lorie Chortyk. However, the SPCA could become involved if the RCMP requests assistance, she added.
