The undefeated 2004-05 SFU women's basketball team was inducted into the 2023 Burnaby Sports Hall of Fame class.

Who will be next to be graced with a plaque on the wall of the Burnaby Sports Hall of Fame?

That's entirely up to Burnaby residents and sports fans alike.

The local organization has made a call for nominations for the 2024 class to join other Burnaby sports icons.

This includes three-time Stanley Cup-champion Joe Sakic, Vancouver Canucks' alumni Cliff Ronning, the undefeated 2004-05 national-champion SFU women's basketball team, and living soccer legend Christine Sinclair, who's set to play her final game in a Canadian jersey on Dec. 5 in Vancouver.

In addition to the SFU women's basketball team, the 2023 inductees included Red Leafs softball standout Erin Gee and Burnaby Karate Academy coach Sandeep Gill, as well as pro soccer players Mike McLenaghen and Jim Swelander.

Nominations can be for one or more of the hall of fame's four inductions categories:

  • Athlete
  • Team
  • Coach
  • Builder

The 2024 class will be recognized during an official ceremony in the new year, most likely in the Spring, marking the 21st annual event of its kind.

The deadline to submit a nomination is set for Nov. 30.
