A gas leak which forced the evacuation of 42 single-family homes in North Burnaby on Monday night has resulted in no injuries.
According to Cpl. Dave Reid of the Burnaby RCMP, Fortis B.C. was alerted to the situation at approximately 9 p.m. in the area around Georgia Street and Grove Avenue, just east of Burnaby North Secondary School.
Fortis officials asked for assistance from the Burnaby RCMP and firefighters and 42 homes were evacuated as Fortis officials tried to identify the cause of the leak.
"They discovered the leak came from a home where the gas connections into the home had been fractured," said Reid. "They got a backhoe in there and fixed it and there were no injuries."
