Const. Calvin Leung of the Richmond RCMP was enjoying a day off in the Metrotown area recently when his police instincts kicked in.
"I was just driving along when I saw these two males run across Kingsway towards the Metrotown parking lot," Leung said in a police press release. "Cars were braking hard to avoid running them down. I was going to roll down my window and have a word with them, but then I saw them strip off their top layer of clothes. I thought something was up so I followed them."
Leung parked his car and followed the two men on foot. When the men got onto a bus, Leung told the bus driver to wait for the police while he called 911.
Burnaby RCMP constables responded immediately and took the two men off the bus. Police were able to link the men to the robbery of a local restaurant that occurred just moments before. Both men were arrested, with one of them found with a large hunting knife.
"This demonstrates the strong instincts and dedication to duty that our police officers possess," Supt. Derren Lench of the Burnaby RCMP said in a press release. "I've taken the opportunity to personally thank Const. Leung for his quick and decisive actions."
Two Vancouver men, George Mack Nicholson and James Douglas Holden, are now facing robbery charges.
