Wheelchair basketball has reached new heights in recent years, including Canada's national squads at the Paralympics.

Now, Port Moody residents are being invited to come out and test their hand (and upper body strength) at the sport through a free "try-it" event next month.

The BC Wheelchair Basketball Society (BCWCBS) is hosting the program.

Representatives from the organization are set to teach the fundamental skills of the game, as well as how it's played in a real-time scenario.

According to the BCWCBS' 2020-21 report, nearly 200 people participated in its "Let's Play" programs from 32 sessions.

The two-hour event will also see interested participants play other games in wheelchairs like tag and boccia.

Everyone of all abilities is welcome to pre-register and attend.

The free session will take place at Port Moody Recreation Complex from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. on Dec. 5, 2021.
