Open house welcomes you to help plan a new Burnaby dog park

Bell Park and Keswick Park considered for off leash area

The dogs of northeast Burnaby might soon have a new place to play fetch, chase each other and poop.

The city is eyeing either Bell Park or Keswick Park for a new off-leash dog park.

The municipality plans to host open houses at Cameron Recreation Centre on Sunday, April 7 from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m. and on Wednesday, April 10 from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. to give residents a chance to learn about the plans and share their opinions on them.

“Bell Park is centrally located within the target service area at a hub on the Urban Trail network and provides opportunities for parking on East Lake Drive,” a city report says. “Provided it is built as a fully fenced enclosure and set back 15 metres from (the) top of (the) bank from Stoney Creek and Tributary 1, this location meets the site selection criteria.”

The report does not explain why Keswick Park is being considered as the site for a new off-leash area.

The city already has 10 off-leash areas, which are “well used by the public,” according to the report. The city says it plans to maintain and upgrade those facilities “as budget allows.”
