Opinion: Does watching movies make you Burnaby's most distracted driver? It's damn close

Burnaby RCMP have issued a run on tickets for distracted driving and people not securing dangerous loads.

But none worse than a driver caught watching videos while driving.

The offence happened during a recent distracted driving campaign in which Burnaby RCMP traffic officers issued 48 tickets in one day to drivers using electronic devices.

But the worst of the worst was one dude who had a tablet set up next to the steering wheel and above the stick shift. The tablet was fastened into place so movies could be viewed while driving and at stop lights.

You just can't, sadly, make this stuff up.

Each driver received a ticket for $368.

“Since 2014, more than one-in-four fatal crashes on B.C. roads have involved driver distraction,” tweeted one person in response to the Burnaby RCMP’s tweets about all of the tickets. “If you get behind the wheel, put the phone away.”

Police also tweeted out about officers stopping a loaded boat trailer in which the “only thing holding the trailer axle to the frame were straps.” (See the attached photo.)

The trailer and boat were both seized and removed from the road, and the trailer plates were taken away.
