Opinion: This is Burnaby's best butter chicken just in time for indoor dining's return

With indoor dining returning, this dish is perfect - or take it out

So, restaurants are set to reopen soon for indoor dining, according to Premier John Horgan as efforts to slow the spread of COVID-19 are having an effect, and the province's vaccination campaign has ramped up to a record level of providing new jabs in arms.

This combination of phenomena prompted Horgan to stress that health restrictions on travelling around the province, and on dining inside restaurants will end soon.

"Expect on Tuesday that the circuit breaker will be over, and a roadmap will be laid out for all British Columbians," he said. "This is great news."

So, after weeks of cooking at home and ordering delivery and takeout, if you are ready to eat at a restaurant, where are you going?

For me, it’s a tough list to make and then whittle down to just one choice. It’s like trying to choose my favourite child (actually, I only have one child).

I could go Greek with Olove on Hastings or Italian with La Forchetta.

If I was going to go Indian, the choice is clear.

I’m not an expert on Indian food, nor do I profess to be. I do, however, know what I like and it’s the butter chicken dish at Bombay Bistro at 7558 – 6th St. in Burnaby.

I’ve tried a lot of places in Burnaby, but Bombay does it the best. I also switch things up with the butter prawns – same decadent sauce.

Add in some rice and naan bread and I am happy for two meals because the portions are so big.

Bombay just does that butter chicken sauce with such a deft hand in regards to the spices. It’s creamy and delicious and worth coming back again and again. It's even better than my previous go-to place - the GM Restaurant in Maple Ridge.

If you haven’t dropped by the area around this restaurant before, you’ll notice there are several Indian places, including sweets shops. I always find it interesting how some areas turn into an enclave, like all of the Korean places on North Road.

You can really feel a sense of community here, which makes the eating that much better. And even if you aren't ready to sit down for dinner at a restaurant, this dish makes a perfect takeout meal.

DISCLAIMER: I have not been compensated in any way by the restaurant in question. They don’t even know I am writing about them.
