There were two stabbings in Burnaby’s Edmonds neighbourhood earlier this week but police say they were unrelated.
On Sunday at about 4 p.m., Burnaby RCMP responded to a report of a stabbing in the area of Edmonds Street and Humphries Avenue, according to an emailed statement from the detachment.
When officers arrived, they located a man with a single stab wound.
The victim, however, refuse to provide a statement and “extensive patrols” failed to turn up any suspect, police said.
The victim was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Then, on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m., police responded to reports of a fight at the Waves coffee shop near Kingsway and Edmonds Street.
When officers arrived, they found a 32-year-old man with stab wounds, Burnaby RCMP told the NOW.
That victim, too, was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
In that case, officers with Burnaby RCMP’s anti-gang squad located two suspects, a 30-year-old Coquitlam man and a 29-year-old Burnaby woman, several blocks away and took them into custody without incident.
Anti-gang officers happened to be in the area at the time to make the arrest, but the incident is believed to have been the result of a personal dispute and not gang related.
The man and woman now face possible weapons charges.
CTV News has reported two teen girls stepped in to help the second stab victim.
“We applaud them for their efforts in helping a stranger during this incident,” Burnaby RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Mike Kalanj said in an emailed statement. “While we recognize these two young women for their bravery in this situation, Burnaby RCMP does want to remind the public to ensure their own safety first before they act.”
The victim in the Waves stabbing has been released from hospital, according to police.
