The Edmonds Park, next to the new Edmonds Community Centre, is being redeveloped into two zones - the heart and the great lawn.
Burnaby council allocated $1.4 million to the project from the city's capital reserves at the June 25 council meeting.
The heart of the park will include a large pedestrian plaza next to the centre, according to a report from the city's director of parks, recreation and cultural services, Dave Ellenwood.
There will also be a playground at the centre and a waterplay zone next to it.
On the northern edge of the great lawn will be a double tennis court, a multi-use court and half basketball courts.
The report may be the closest Burnaby city hall documents ever come to poetry, with lines such as: "Beyond the heart lies the great lawn, where more passive uses will be situated."
The Bard better watch out. There's competition here in Burnaby.
HART LICENCE GETS SUPPORT
Burnaby council is supporting a liquor licence application by Hart House Restaurant for its seasonal tent structure.
Council approved the restaurant's rezoning application for the 250-seat structure, to be used to host special events, at a council meeting in May 2011.
The restaurant is now applying to the Liquor Control and Licensing Branch to amend its current food primary liquor licence for the restaurant, patio and gazebo to include the seasonal tent and permit patron participation entertainment, according to a report from the city's planning and building department.
The entertainment could include live or amplified music for dinner and dancing events, according to the report, with the music ceasing by 10 p.m. from Sunday through Thursday, and by midnight on Fridays and Saturdays.
