Parks projects OK'd

Burnaby city council approved funding for 12 parks, recreation and cultural projects at Monday night's meeting. The projects will cost $2.318 million, to be paid for from the capital reserves.

The projects will cost $2.318 million, to be paid for from the capital reserves.

The money is going towards renovation and updates at the Burnaby Mountain Golf Course ($205,000) and the Riverway Golf Course ($385,000); continuing the development of a trail system at Burnaby Mountain Park and other upgrades there ($335,000); and boardwalk replacement, trail construction and upgrades at Deer Lake Park ($255,000).

Two playgrounds are being replaced as well - the Burnaby Mountain Park and David Gray Park playgrounds ($175,000 each).

The Burnaby Art Gallery is also getting some improvements and upgrades ($25,000).

The Burnaby Village Museum is having storage areas built in the blacksmith building ($35,000), and is getting upgrades in the carousel area for the carousel's 100th anniversary ($100,000).

The Shadbolt Centre for the Arts is getting equipment replaced ($100,000) as well as carpeting and flooring, and other interior improvements ($230,000).

Eileen Dailly Pool will be getting an ultraviolet disinfectant system to replace the current ozone system ($50,000).
