A pedestrian was struck and killed early Saturday morning as he was walking along Lougheed Highway.

According to Burnaby RCMP, the man was walking along the inside shoulder next to the concrete median around 4: 40 a.m. in the westbound lane near Phillips Avenue when he was struck by a red 1997 Ford F150 pickup truck. The driver remained at the scene and called 911, but the victim did not survive.

Cpl. Brenda Gresiuk said police are recommending charges of impaired driving, and more charges are possible. Gresiuk said police are now appealing to the public for information that "can help piece the puzzle together."

"A lot of people think they don't need to call the police if they drive past a collision after it happened," she said. "No, we're looking for the events that happened before, during and after. . Someone out there might have a really valuable piece of information that could be very helpful to us, even if you think what you saw isn't of any importance."

Anyone who might have seen the truck, the victim or the collision at any point is asked to call Const. Collins at 604-294-7922.
