Photos: Poppies laid to honour fallen Burnaby military members

Burnaby youth cadets and community leaders took in the ceremony at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, organized by St. John Ambulance.

Burnaby's No Stone Left alone ceremony took place today, Nov. 5, at Forest Lawn Memorial Park (3789 Royal Oak Ave.).

Youth cadets, community leaders and other dignitaries laid poppies at the tombstones of fallen local military members as part of the pre-Remembrance Day event.

After the official service, a piper led the contingent to the grave of Dr. Po Tin Chak, where Marion MacKenzie, ,

retired dame of the order of St. John, placed the final poppy.

Dr. Chak served in the Battle of Hong Kong in 1941 as a St. John Ambulance veteran. He passed away in 2021 at 99 years old.

Burnaby Mayor Mike Hurley was in attendance for the ceremony, which began at the Last Post Fund Memorial.

Others included Canadian Senator Yonah Martin, members of the Royal Canadian Navy, Army, RCMP and St. John Ambulance, as well as veteran families and friends.
