Photos: PriceSmart Foods opens in Burnaby as 'feast for all the senses'

There's a new grocery store in town.

The second PriceSmart Foods in Burnaby is open as of 7 a.m. today (Jan. 25).

The Asian grocery store had its grand opening Jan. 24, celebrated with a lion dance by Vancouver Lion Dance Group and music by Michelle Kwan.

Store manager Eddie Kim said he was excited to open the new store, which he described as a "feast for all the senses."

"We are not just here to sell groceries," Kim said at the opening. "We're here to give back, to be an active part of the community, and to make sure we are there when our friends and neighbours need us most."

The store has 150 team members, Kim said, including 135 new staff and others re-locating from other stores.

The grand opening was attended by Darrell Jones, Pattison Food Group president, various Pattison Food Group executives and local officials including Mayor Mike Hurley.

PriceSmart is also home to Harmony Café, which sells bubble tea, specialty slush and smoothies, fruit juice and a host of pastries and sandwiches. (At least one student had already set up shop studying during the grand opening.)
