Pipeline debate will heat up in '13

Expect to see more of this in 2013: All quiet on the western front? Not likely - at least so long as the battle continues to brew over the Kinder Morgan pipeline; and brewing it is.

Expect to see more of this in 2013: All quiet on the western front? Not likely - at least so long as the battle continues to brew over the Kinder Morgan pipeline; and brewing it is. Resident and environmental groups continue to get louder as the effort to double the pipeline - which travels from Alberta through B.C., terminating right here in Burnaby - continues in the coming months. With recent news that the pipeline may travel under several elementary schools, and of high-profile spills in other parts of North America, the stakes continue to go up - and the stakeholders (a fancy word for "people who give a damn") will get more demanding of their right to information and, ultimately, their right to have a say in what happens. With a provincial election right around the corner, expect to see politicians of all stripes jumping into the fray, as well as renewed efforts from the industry to get the project moving forward.
