Pitt Meadows TikTok road rager not a Burnaby firefighter, says fire chief

A video posted on TikTok Saturday showed a man in a Burnaby Fire Department t-shirt swearing and making a racist comment during a road rage incident in Pitt Meadows, but Burnaby fire Chief Chris Bowcock says the man isn’t a Burnaby firefighter.

Burnaby’s fire chief says a man caught on video swearing and yelling a racist comment at another driver during a road-rage incident in Pitt Meadows this weekend “is not, and never has been” a Burnaby firefighter despite his sleeveless Burnaby Fire Department t-shirt.

A TikTok video posted Saturday shows the man standing at the driver side of another vehicle yelling and swearing at the driver about traffic.

“You can’t see there’s traffic?” the man yells. “You can’t wait with your family? That’s pretty f***ing stupid. That’s how you get f***ing beaten up.”

He then yelled a racist comment and punched the driver side window twice and walked back to his black Dodge pickup truck.

The TikToker who posted the video said it happened at Harris Road and Lougheed Highway at 4 p.m. on Saturday during the Pitt Meadows Day celebration, which shut down Harris Road for part of the day.

Multiple people commented online about the angry man’s t-shirt, saying he should lose his job if he is a firefighter, but Burnaby fire Chief Chris Bowcock said the man “is not, and never has been a member of the Burnaby Fire Department.”

“Such aggressive behaviour, offensive and racist comments are wrong and are contrary to everything Burnaby Fire stands for,” Bowcock said in an emailed statement.

Ridge Meadows RCMP confirmed it got a report about the incident and has launched an investigation into the matter.

The detachment said all parties have been identified and are cooperating with police.
