A 30-year-old Vancouver man was arrested Tuesday night by Transit Police officers and now faces charges related to a sexual assault against a 12-year-old girl last month.

Jean Pierre Muyindu, 30, made his first court appearance on Wednesday and was released on a recognizance with conditions. His next court appearance is scheduled for Oct. 3.

The incident occurred on Aug. 31 at 3: 45 p.m. when the girl boarded a Simon Fraser University express bus on Hastings Street, near the Pacific National Exhibition and soon noticed a man edging toward her.

The man followed her as she exited the bus at Hastings Street and Willingdon Avenue and even sprinted through traffic and across the street to board another bus with her to Metrotown.

As she waited near the front of the 130 Metrotown bus to get off at the Brentwood SkyTrain Station, the suspect allegedly pinned her from behind and grabbed her buttocks.

She got off the bus and ran to the SkyTrain station where she asked a woman for help and ended up taking a train to Lougheed Station where the two reported the incident to an attendant.

After media coverage of the incident, which included the release of video and photos of the male suspect, police investigators were contacted by two additional potential victims. Police are currently investigating those incidents to see if they are connected to the Aug. 31 incident.
