A Prince George RCMP police dog helped nab a break and enter suspect last week.

At 7 p.m. on July 11, police were called by a resident living in the 4200 block of Cowart Road. The homeowner reported two unknown men on his property were trying to break into an outbuilding. Police officers arrived at the scene and found one outbuilding with a broken lock.

A second outbuilding on the property had been broken into, and the homeowner confirmed that some items were missing.

“A Police Dog Services team attended the location of the break and enter, and the police service dog was able to successfully locate one of the suspects as he attempted to cross Highway 16,” RCMP spokesperson Cst. Jennifer Cooper said in a press release. “The police dog also located a backpack nearby that matches the one seen on the suspect in video surveillance from the residence. The second suspect was not located.”

Stephen James Sherman, 29, is facing two charges of breaking and entering, and one charge of theft under $5,000. Sherman is known to police and will remain in custody until his next court appearance
