The Burnaby RCMP is investigating an attempted home invasion which occurred early Thursday morning in North Burnaby.
According to Cpl. Rick Skolrood of the Burnaby RCMP, four men wearing masks went to a home on Albert Street shortly after midnight. They announced themselves as RCMP officers and then kicked the door in. Upon entering the home, the four men assaulted one man and then left without taking anything.
Police are investigating this in conjunction with another case where people wearing police-type insignias unsuccessfully attempted to gain entrance into a jewelry store at a local mall.
"I want to assure the public that we take these matters very seriously and our members are working diligently to determine who is responsible," Supt. Derren Lench said in a press release. "We are concerned whenever criminals are personating police officers and the obvious victimization that is occurring to the innocent citizens within the city ... I would encourage anyone having doubts about the claims of someone purporting to be a police officer to call us immediately."
