An altercation between a group of men turned bloody when one of the men was stabbed and chased into a nearby business.

At about 3:45 p.m. on Saturday, in a parking lot in the 4200 block of Lougheed Highway, a man was allegedly attacked by a group of Asian men. During the alleged attack, the victim was stabbed. He quickly ran for help, finding refuge in the lobby of the nearby Steve Nash Fitness Club, according to Burnaby RCMP.

"That's where a number of staff members and club members assisted. They contacted B.C. Ambulance service, the paramedics arrived and he (the victim) was transported to Royal Columbian Hospital," said Staff Sgt. Maj. John Buis of the Burnaby RCMP.

The Mounties have since hit a wall in their investigation.

One of the witnesses refused to cooperate with police at the scene, while investigators are still waiting to speak with the victim, but Buis doesn't know what, if anything, he will say about the attack.

Burnaby RCMP don't believe this incident was random and while the department couldn't confirm if it was gang-related, Buis said it's possible there is a connection.

"We don't know and we're still trying to find out all the details," he added.
