Police just took 16 defective vehicles off Burnaby roads

The Burnaby RCMP traffic enforcement unit has been working in overdrive the past few days.

It set up another of its inspections that are focused on commercial trucks. Previous efforts have ended up nailing a long list of drivers in “unsafe” vehicles.

This latest effort was no exception.

In just three days, officers inspected 24 vehicles.

Out of those 24 commercial vehicles, they found a whopping 61 violations and impounded 16 of the vehicles.

That’s way more than half of the vehicles inspected were found to be unsafe to be on Burnaby roads.

Const. Kevin Connolly told the NOW last year that commercial vehicles often fail their inspections.

“Commercial vehicles are one of the highest-violating types that are on the road,” said Connolly, who works in the Burnaby RCMP’s traffic enforcement unit. “When you consider how big commercial vehicles are and the potential for damage, it’s concerning.”
