A 64-year-old man who was struck while walking on a marked crosswalk in Burnaby Thursday has died in hospital.
At about 7:50 a.m., the man was crossing Marine Drive at Greenall Avenue when he was hit, according to a police press release.
He was treated at the scene and taken to hospital in critical condition but has since died, police said.
The driver remained at the scene and has cooperated with police, but investigators are now looking for possible witnesses – specifically the driver or occupants of a white compact pickup truck and a large white commercial delivery-type truck that were observed at the scene.
“Police believe that the drivers and occupants of these vehicles may have witnessed the collision and could provide investigators with valuable information,” Burnaby RCMP Cpl. Daniela Panesar stated in a press release.
Burnaby RCMP is also urging drivers and pedestrians alike to be extra vigilant on roadways and at crosswalks during the shorter daylight hours and bad weather of fall and winter.
