Mounties are still investigating two incidents of sexual assault that happened near Moscrop and Burnaby South secondary schools recently.

Between 12:30 and 1 p.m. on Nov. 4, a female student was walking through Westburn Park, on her way to Moscrop Secondary School, when an unknown man approached her.

The man allegedly tried to engage the student “in a conversation that was sexual in nature.” The suspect then pulled out a sex toy to show the student and grabbed at her buttocks, according to Burnaby RCMP. The student fled the park and alerted Moscrop administration, and they called the RCMP.

The following day, on Nov. 5 at about 3:45 p.m., another female student, this time from Burnaby South Secondary School, had a similar encounter. In this case, the student was approached by a man while walking home. The man allegedly tried to engage the student in a sexual conversation, but she fled the scene and reported the incident to police, according to Burnaby RCMP. In this instance, the student wasn’t touched or grabbed.

Burnaby RCMP are now hoping for the public’s help in identifying the suspect. Police believe the same man was involved in both cases. He is described as a 20- to 30-year-old Caucasian man, between 5-8 and six feet tall with a fair complexion, “distinct” light blue eyes, a slim nose and pockmarks on his face.

“We are hoping someone will recognize the male in the sketch,” said Cpl. Lea-Anne Dunlop of the Burnaby RCMP. “Police do believe these incidents involve the same male.”

Police are also asking anyone who may have had a similar experience and not yet reported it to contact the Burnaby RCMP.

Anyone with information on the suspect’s identity or either incidents is asked to contact the Burnaby RCMP at 604-294-7922 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
